The Facebook Obsession and Its Effect on Communication [Infographic]

Are we too obsessed with Facebook? That’s what OnlineSchools.org is suggesting through this infographic they created. Approximately three out of four Americans are on Facebook. That’s more than 225 million people. And, for almost half of 18 to 34 year olds, Facebook is the first thing they check when they wake up. Not to mention the 28 percent that use their smart phones to check Facebook before even getting out of bed.

While this obsession is interesting, what is even more interesting is how the prevalence of this medium changes human communication and media consumption. The statistics show that now 57 percent of people talk to people more online than they do in real life, and 48 percent of young Americans said they find out about news through Facebook. What does this say about the future of communication and Facebook’s effect on communication? Is this good or bad? We want to hear your opinion. Share it in a comment below.
